About our concrete contractor team in Sierra Madre
How I got into concrete
I grew up on a family farm where anything that broke, we fixed ourselves, and that's where I first mixed concrete, for barn floors and the pads around the water troughs. A trough pad teaches you fast that if the ground under it isn't right, the concrete on top won't stay right either. I spent years on concrete crews around the San Gabriel Valley learning the trade properly, and in 2020 I started Cornerstone Sierra Madre Concrete here in Sierra Madre.
Most people who call us are planning a driveway, a patio, a wall or a foundation and want to understand the job before they hire anyone. I like that, because I care most about the parts you can't see once it's poured, like the base, the drainage and the joints. Sierra Madre sits below a canyon that has flooded before, so where the water will run is one of the first things I look at. You can see the rest of what we build on our home page.
Licenses and insurance
California contractor license
The state licensing board requires a licensed contractor on any job that needs a building permit, uses hired workers or costs $1,000 or more in labor and materials, which usually takes in a driveway or patio. We're fully licensed and insured, and you should ask any contractor you're considering, us included, to show you theirs.
Sierra Madre city business license
The city requires a City Business License before any contractor applies for a construction permit, and that includes businesses based outside Sierra Madre that work inside city limits. The city also issues building permits only to a state-licensed contractor or to the property owner, so a contractor missing either one can't pull the permit for your job.

What you can expect working with us
You'll know what's going in the ground
Before we pour, I walk you through the base under the slab, which way the water will run and where we'll cut control joints, the shallow grooves that give concrete a place to crack in a straight line. I'll also tell you plainly which small cracks are normal, so you're not left guessing after the pour.
The person you talked to runs your job
I come out myself to look at the job and write the estimate, and I'm on site running it while our crew does the work. If something under your old slab surprises us, you hear it from me, not secondhand.
Permits sorted out before we start
Before work starts, we find out what your job needs from the city or county, so you know up front what it'll ask for. When a permit applies, we handle the application as the licensed contractor and walk you through each step.
